Traveling in general can be expensive, but traveling under 25 can be even more expensive if you don’t know these savings tips!
Justice and I have been traveling together since we were 20 years old, and we have had our fair share of traveling mistakes that have cost us some money along the way. One major way we were able to save on rental cars for our trips is through the partnership between AAA and Hertz.

Say Goodbye to Young Renter Fees
AAA and Hertz- What You Need to Know
If you are between the ages of 20-24, most rental car companies tack on additional “Young Renter fee” to your reservation. In most cases, the fee is upwards of $30 PER DAY.
Fear not! There are ways around these sneaky fees, and the best part is that it’s as simple as adding a Club Code to your reservation and bringing your AAA car with you when you travel.
First, you will want to head over to the Hertz reservation website to begin your reservation process. Enter in your pick-up location, dates and times into the bar.
Click on Add a Discount Code in the top left corner above the Pick-Up Location bar
Here, you will enter your AAA membership code in the Club Code bar. Your area’s Club Code can be found on your AAA card under neath “Club Code”.
Then, click Apply and Continue
The AAA savings will automatically be applied to your reservation!
Just remember to bring the credit card you use to book, your driver’s license (and any authorized driver's license as well), and your AAA card when you travel. You will need to show proof of membership when you pick up the car.
Additional Perks with Hertz and AAA
With your AAA membership and local Club Code, you can save in other ways on your rental car reservation.
Up to 20% off base rentals
Free Child Safety seat on your rental ($13.99 per day savings)
10% savings on gasoline pre-payment
Additional driver fee waived- the driver must be on your AAA account ($13.50 per day savings)
Loss damage limit of $5,000 per event
For young parents, the waived fees for the additional driver, free child seat and being a young driver is a huge bonus.
AAA Membership- How Much Are We Talking?
Right now, AAA is offering a 2 for 1 promotion on their AAA memberships. For Northeast Wisconsin (it can change based on your area), the first year is $54 for 1 driver for the base membership and the first year of the additional driver is waived.
The following year, the additional driver is $19 for the year.
Getting an annual AAA membership for $54, saves $30 PER DAY on your Hertz rental. If you plan on taking multiple trips within a 1 year timeframe, the savings will only keep stacking.

We have been talking so much about the savings with Hertz, but we can’t forget to mention the added perks of AAA when you have the membership.
