Disney Visa Cards with Chase: Should you apply?
Let’s chat about the Chase Disney Visa cards. There are benefits to having this card, but there are also some major drawbacks!

The DPV has a $49 annual fee, which is significantly less than some of the other credit cards that you can use on travel. You earn 5% back in Disney Reward Dollars when you use your card to purchase Disne+, Hulu, and ESPN+ directly with your card. Earn 2% back in Disney Reward Dollars when you use your card to purchase anything at grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations. You earn 1% back on all other purchases.
There is a Disney Visa card that is a basic version of the DPV, which has no annual fee. However, you do not gain as many perks with the basic card as you would with the DPV. For this card, the current promotion is a $150 statement credit when you spend $500 in the first 3 months of card ownership. Here, you earn 1% across the board- which means you lose your 5% and 2% back in certain categories.
Right now (December 2023), Disney is running a promotion for their Disney Premier Visa (DPV) card with Chase Bank. The promotion for the is a $300 statement credit after you spend $1000 in the first three months from account opening. They're also offering 0% promotional APR for 6 months on select Disney vacation packages from the date of purchase. At this location you can meet two characters at a time. Typically, Goofy, Mickey, Minnie and Pluto are interchanged frequently so there is a chance you can meet new characters each time you go. It is absolutely free, and it is open from 1-6:30pm most days.
When you use your Disney Visa Card on the Disney Cruise Line, you can save 10% on a non-discounted digital photo package. Typically, these packages include 10, 15, or 20 photos depending on your selected package, or you can purchase an all -inclusive digital photo package which including photos of the landmarks taken through your cruise trip
If you plan on taking a Disney Cruise, you can save 20% on select onboard spa treatments at The Senses Spa & Salon and Chill Spa. The census sponsor loan is for adults only and the chill spa was created for guests ages 13 to 17.
When you use your card, you can receive 10% off a Castaway Cay Getaway Package, which includes snorkeling, a bicycle rental, and a float or inner tube rental on the private island.
If you plan on purchases a real estate interest in the Disney Vacation Club, you qualify for 0% interest on DVC purchases, including member add ons. This is not valid on member dues.
This isn’t really a perk in my opinion because not many people have thousands upon thousands of dollars laying around the pay off a timeshare in 6 months or less, but power to you if you do!
You can use your reward dollars on select restaurants on Disney property. Another great option is Joffrey’s, which is the official specialty coffee merchant at Disney Parks. Here you receive 20% off your entire order when you use your card. Joffrey’s sells speciality coffees, smoothies and seasonal alcoholic beverages.
Everyday, you save 10% on merchandise around the parks and on shopdisney.com. Periodically, Disney will launch Disney Visa Cardholder promotional offers for on select Disney resort hotel stays and events, so make sure to watch their promotions page (it updates often!)
Statement Credits, Intro Offers and Annual Fees
Special Financing of Disney Vacation Packages
Whichever card you choose, you can qualify for special vacation financing when you book select vacation packages using your card. The current terms include 0% interest financing for 6 months, which comes in handy if you need some extra time to save up for your trip. These packages include WDW vacation packages include reservations made through Walt Disney World Travel Company, AAA vacations or online at DisneyWorld.com.
For Disneyland packages, you qualify for special financing when you book a vacation package for a Disneyland Resort or a nearby Good Neighbor Hotel when booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company. To contact a Disneyland sales agent, call 866-844-9382 and mention that you have this card and would like more information on special financing.
When you use any Disney Visa Card to purchase merchandise, you can save 10% on select purchases at the park and on shopdisney.com. For DVP cardholders, Disney tends to send mailers during holiday seasons with additional discounts when you use your card. We have seen savings upwards of 25% if you use your Disney Visa card, so make sure you keep an eye out for those mailers when the holiday season comes around for extra savings
Disney Visa Cardholders (either card) have access to special photo spot opportunity in Epcot. This is in a somewhat hidden area next to Pixar Short Film Festival/Journey into Imagination with Figment. If you take the ramp to the left of the entrance ramp to the Pixar Film Festival, there will be a building with large glass windows with “Photo Spot” sign over the door If you need help finding it, it's near the huge waterfall and you can always ask a cast member to help you find it as well.

So, you have earned Disney Reward Dollars by using your card. What’s the best way to use them, you ask?
There are many ways to use your Disney Reward Dollars, but in my opinion, there's a right and a wrong way.
Firstly, a few weeks before your trip, you need to issue a Disney reward redemption card through the Chase Portal. There is no other way to access your Disney Reward Dollars than your Disney Reward Redemption card, so this is very important to remember to issue the card before your trip. If you already have one, you can reload it at any time and it will reflect immediately on your card.
If you have the Disney Premier Visa Card, you can use your rewards dollar for a statement credit for air travel. What you do is purchase your flights with your Disney Visa Premier Card, and then issue a statement credit to your card from your Disney Reward Dollars page to pay yourself back.
BUT….There are many other opportunities out there to save on flights, and there aren't many opportunities to save at Disney. I would recommend opening up a different credit card and using the intro promotion to pay for your flights or saving up money and paying for your flights instead.
You can also redeem reward dollars towards a Disney movie at AMC theatres.
